When I got to catch up with my friend and fellow blogger last month, our first in-person meeting since we were elementary school penpals, she said something to me that I have not been able to shake.
She said, "you see no difference between the sacred and the secular." It was perhaps one of the best complements I've been given.
It's true. I don't see any difference. Not in the way that I do not regard the sacred with respect, but that, to me, all is sacred. My work, my science, my relationships with people-- they are all seen through the lens of the sacred. I see God's hand at work in the world and in my life, and it touches everything. Nothing is immune. "Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made." (John 1:3)
I don't make distinctions. There are no boxes or categories. I live. Christ lives in me. Everything is sacred.
